Maroon Bells at Sunrise
Maroon Bells at Sunrise, Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, Colorado
The 14,000-foot Maroon Bells, near Aspen, remain one of the enduring icons of American landscape photography. Even at sunrise, the shores of Maroon Lake are lined with hopeful photographers from across the country and around the world. I visited Maroon Lake at least half a dozen times over a period of several years, looking for a beautiful combination of sunrise light, interesting clouds and a reflection and was finally rewarded with this image. I shot this photo in late September with a Zone VI 4x5 field camera and Kodak Pro 100 film.
